Prez. Mahama rallies support for Black Stars ahead of World Cup opener against Panama
President John Dramani Mahama has called on the Black Stars to approach their opening World Cup fixture against Panama with confidence, determination and a strong sense of national pride, assuring the team of the unwavering support of Ghanaians both at home and abroad.
In a message issued on behalf of the government and the people of Ghana ahead of the match in Toronto, the President described the country's fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup as a significant achievement that reflects Ghana's resilience and enduring passion for football.
He urged the players to embrace the responsibility of representing the nation on the global stage and to draw inspiration from millions of young Ghanaians who see them as role models.
According to President Mahama, the team carries the aspirations and pride of an entire nation and has an opportunity to inspire a new generation through its performance at the tournament.
He noted that support for the Black Stars transcends geographical boundaries, with Ghanaians from every part of the country united behind the team as it begins its World Cup campaign.
The President also appealed to members of the Ghanaian diaspora in Canada and across North America to turn out in large numbers and provide strong backing for the team from the stands.
He encouraged supporters to create a vibrant atmosphere at the stadium and demonstrate the spirit and unity for which Ghanaian football fans are known.
