Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam George, has announced major reductions in the cost of MTN Ghana's fibre broadband packages, a move aimed at making high-speed internet more accessible to consumers.

In a post shared on social media on Wednesday, the Minister disclosed that discussions between government and MTN Ghana had resulted in a significant review of the company's unlimited broadband offerings.

Under the new pricing regime, subscribers who previously paid GH¢987 for an unlimited 100 Mbps package will now pay GH¢299 per month for the same service.

The revised packages also introduce an unlimited 300 Mbps plan at GH¢444 monthly, while customers seeking higher speeds can subscribe to a 500 Mbps unlimited package for GH¢999.

Mr. George said the reductions were achieved following sustained engagements with the telecommunications provider to address concerns about the cost of internet services in the country.

According to him, government has been pushing for broadband services that are not only affordable but also reliable and capable of meeting the growing digital needs of Ghanaians.

He commended the management of MTN Ghana for responding positively to calls for improved affordability and enhanced customer value.

The Minister further indicated that the Ministry would continue discussions with industry players to secure better service packages and improve access to digital connectivity nationwide.

The price review is expected to bring relief to households, businesses, students, remote workers and digital content creators who depend heavily on stable and high-speed internet services.

With demand for broadband connectivity continuing to rise, industry observers believe the new pricing structure could significantly expand access to fibre internet and accelerate digital inclusion across the country.

While MTN Ghana is yet to release a comprehensive statement detailing the revised packages, the development represents one of the most substantial reductions in fibre broadband costs seen in Ghana's telecommunications sector in recent years.
