Weija treatment plant undergoes emergency shutdown; water supply interrupted in several communities
Ghana Water Limited (GWL), Accra West Region, has announced an emergency shutdown of the Weija Treatment Plant to allow for urgent repair works, resulting in a temporary interruption of water supply to several parts of the Greater Accra Region.
The shutdown, which took effect from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, 18 November 2025, has affected a wide range of communities, including Korle-Bu, Dansoman, Mamprobi, parts of Weija, Gbawe, Malam, Anyaa, Kwashieman, Ablekuma, Darkuman, Kaneshie, Tesano, Odorkor, Sowutuom, Lapaz, parts of Achimota, North Industrial Area, and adjoining areas.
According to the utility provider, engineers are already on-site working to complete the repairs within the stipulated timeframe.
GWL expressed regret over the inconvenience caused and assured residents that efforts are being made to restore the normal water supply as quickly as possible.
