2 arrested in Tamale for alleged murder of fellow Nigerian national
The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested two Nigerian nationals in connection with the alleged murder of their compatriot in Sanzirigu, a suburb of Tamale.
The suspects, identified as Daniel Victor Eze and David Oko Ewa, were apprehended at Tatale on the Ghana-Togo border during an intelligence-led operation. Their arrest followed the discovery of the body of 36-year-old Nkemujika Uzorchuku Eze inside his bedroom on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
According to police reports, responding officers found the deceased with a deep cut on his forehead and a towel stuffed into his mouth. The bedroom had been completely ransacked. Investigators recovered a wooden pestle at the scene, which is believed to have been used in the assault, alongside other items collected for forensic examination.
The body was transported to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where a medical officer officially confirmed the death. The deceased has since been deposited at the hospital's mortuary awaiting an autopsy.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim shared a three-bedroom apartment with his wife, Peace Uzorchuku, the two suspects, and a third Nigerian national identified as Godwin Nwafor.
A statement from the Northern Regional Police Command indicated that the suspects were apprehended while attempting to cross into neighboring Togo. During interrogation, the suspects allegedly admitted to conspiring to kill the deceased following a dispute regarding the division of proceeds from internet fraud activities.
A subsequent search conducted by authorities led to the recovery of multiple items believed to have been stolen from the victim's room. The retrieved items, which have been kept as exhibits, include mobile phones, laptops, a tablet, jewelry, wristwatches, clothing, and personal documents.
The suspects remain in police custody and are scheduled to be arraigned before a court in Tamale on Monday, July 13, 2026. Meanwhile, investigations remain ongoing as police analyze forensic evidence and work to retrieve relevant CCTV footage from the area.
