63-year-old father killed by mentally challenged son in Volta Region
A 63-year-old mason, Mr. Vincent Tublu, has been fatally attacked by his 28-year-old son, Valentine Tublu, at Kpetoe Lorm Nava electoral area in the Agortime Ziope District of the Volta Region.
According to the deceased’s wife, Madam Janet Gbafa, the son had been receiving medical treatment for mental health issues.
He was due for his next medication last Monday, but upon arriving at the hospital, no doctor was available to assist the nurse in administering the medicine due to the son’s violent behaviour.
He was subsequently brought home and chained to an orange tree near their kitchen, with food prepared on the fire nearby.
While at home, Valentine allegedly attacked his father with a large stick from behind, destroying the kitchen tent in the process, resulting in Mr. Tublu’s death.
The District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Alfred Klu Odikro, condemned the incident and urged youth to avoid hard drugs and alcohol.
Although he could not confirm a direct link between drug use and the suspect’s mental condition, he expressed concern about substance abuse among young people in the area.
The deceased has been deposited at the Ho Teaching Hospital morgue for autopsy, while the suspect is receiving medical treatment at the same facility.
