A/R: Nsuta Court remands 36 suspects following anti-drug raids in Asante Mampong
The Nsuta Circuit Court in the Ashanti Region has remanded 36 individuals into police custody on Monday, May 25, 2026, for their alleged involvement in the use and distribution of illicit narcotics following a targeted security sweep in Asante Mampong.
Presiding Judge Simon Nketsia Gaagah issued the remand order after the prosecution requested more time to conclude active investigations into the criminal allegations.
The suspects, who range in age from 17 to 37, were apprehended during a coordinated police operation conducted on May 23, 2026, within the Akyeremade and Tunsuom neighborhoods — two areas officially designated by law enforcement as hotbeds for illegal drug activity.
Cordon-and-Search Operations in Local Hotspots
Presenting the case facts to the court, Police Prosecutor Peter Kantoreje stated that personnel from the Asante Mampong Police Command executed simultaneous raids to disrupt the illegal drug trade and substance abuse networks within the municipality.
The prosecution noted that a cluster of suspects gathered at an Akyeremade location tried to evade arrest by discarding packages containing substances suspected to be Indian hemp upon noticing the arrival of the police.
“At both locations, suspects attempted to escape upon seeing the police, but they were pursued and arrested,” the prosecutor informed the court.
At the second location in Tunsuom, authorities discovered another faction of the suspects allegedly smoking marijuana inside an illicit drug den before they were surrounded and taken into custody.
Confiscated Evidence and Next Court Date
During the processing of the raid sites, police officers seized various items, including scissors, lighters meant for cigarettes and marijuana, multiple bundles of wrapping paper used for packaging narcotics, cross-body bags, and a cash sum of GH¢5,679.
The court did not record the official pleas of the accused individuals since structural investigations are still in progress. The judicial proceedings have been adjourned, with the suspects scheduled to return to court on June 2, 2026.
