A/R: Nyinahin SHS caretaker arrested over alleged assault of female student captured in viral video
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a teacher of Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School in connection with the alleged assault of a female student captured in a viral video circulating on social media.
The suspect, identified as Eric Buernortey Apaflo, 39, was arrested by a patrol team from the Nyinahin District Police Command on Sunday, June 8, 2026, at about 7 PM.
According to the police, the arrest followed reports that the suspect had assaulted an 18-year-old student, Patience Chibu.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Apaflo, who serves as a caretaker of the school's hostel, confronted the student and some male students over alleged misconduct at the hostel.
During the interaction, a misunderstanding reportedly occurred, resulting in the alleged assault.
The incident sparked anger among some students, who allegedly threw stones at the suspect.
Police said some youth from the town were also invited to the hostel in an attempt to attack him.
However, the situation was brought under control following the timely intervention of a police patrol team.
The police have issued a medical report form to the victim to facilitate medical examination and treatment.
The suspect remains in police custody and is assisting with ongoing investigations.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has urged the public to remain calm and resolve grievances through lawful and peaceful means.
