Ahafo: Police arrest four in connection with murder of destooled Akwamuhene

Crime
Augustine Arhinful, 42 in custody

Police have arrested four suspects in connection with the murder of Nana Owusu Korkor, the destooled Akwamuhene of Tanoso in the Ahafo Region.

The arrests were made between Monday, November 11, and Tuesday, November 12, 2025.

The suspects, currently in custody assisting with investigations, have been identified as:

Issifu Addae (alias Akwasi Addae), 48

Stephen Gyamfi, 55

Augustine Arhinful, 42

Martha Mansah, 65

During interrogation, all four suspects denied involvement in the murder.

Preliminary investigations reveal the murder follows a protracted chieftaincy dispute.

The deceased had been destooled as Akwamuhene and replaced by Nana Akyeampong Duodu.

Nana Owusu Korkor had rejected his destoolment and was engaged in ongoing court battles with the royal family.

The investigation further uncovered that the late chief was accused of misappropriating five gold bars belonging to the family and illegally selling family land after his destoolment.

According to police reports, suspects Issifu, Stephen, and two others (Sampson and Fosu) visited the disputed land to halt development work, where they seized a block-moulding machine and allegedly threatened to "teach the deceased a lesson."

Authorities are now investigating whether the installed chief, Nana Akyeampong Duodu, who is currently in the United States, may have orchestrated the crime to eliminate his predecessor as an obstacle to his rule.

Police investigations continue, with updates to be provided as the case develops.
