Government targets drug traffickers as 73 assets linked to narcotics investigations
The government is shifting its anti-narcotics strategy towards targeting drug traffickers and their assets rather than focusing solely on users, Interior Minister Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka has said.
Speaking during Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang's visit to the Ministry of the Interior, the minister said the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has received additional logistical support to strengthen its operations.
He disclosed that authorities have identified 73 assets linked to suspected drug trafficking activities as part of ongoing enforcement efforts.
"We want to take the fight against narcotics to the ghettos and all the bases and the massive traffickers," he said.
The minister said the government has also secured a dedicated court to handle narcotics-related offences and is working with the Attorney General to enable the NACOC to prosecute its own cases.
According to him, the commission is training lawyers to strengthen prosecutions while continuing public education alongside enforcement measures.
He stressed that the government's strategy combines enforcement with education to address narcotics-related offences more effectively.
