NAiMOS arrests 10 , seizes 6 excavators in Bunso raid
The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAiMOS) has arrested 10 suspected illegal miners and seized six excavator machines in Bunso, Eastern Region.
The operation, part of the government's ongoing efforts to combat galamsey, targeted individuals operating without authority on a concession owned by Gold Empire Resources Limited.
Those arrested include Emmanuel Krobo, Mensah Gozer, Alhaji Farouk Fafa, Nana Oppong, and Terah Kwesi Kumi, among others.
Reports indicate that top politicians may be implicated in the operation.
The seized equipment has been transported to Accra as investigations continue.
A security officer at the scene revealed that the suspects had invaded the registered concession without permission, flouting mining regulations.
The government, led by President John Dramani Mahama, has intensified efforts to curb illegal mining, deploying security mechanisms like NAiMOS and Blue Water Guards to protect the environment and natural resources.
