Jerry Ahmed Shaib launches MP Quiz Competition to inspire academic excellence and civic responsibility in Weija -Gbawe
The Member of Parliament for Weija Gbawe, Mr Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has launched an MP Quiz Competition for students in the constituency under the theme “Empowering Young Minds Through Knowledge and Civic Responsibility.”
The initiative, designed to promote academic excellence and civic engagement among young people, features five participating schools: Oblogo M/A 1 Basic School, New Gbawe Exp 1 Basic School, New Gbawe M/A 1 Basic School, Mallam M/A 1 Basic School, and Gbawe Islamic Basic School Complex.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Shaib said the competition forms part of his broader educational agenda aimed at equipping the youth with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to become responsible citizens and future leaders.
He described education as the cornerstone of personal and national development, emphasising that “education is the bedrock of one’s ability to develop easily.”
The Weija Gbawe MP, who also serves as the Second Deputy Minority Whip, reaffirmed his commitment to advancing education in the constituency through strategic initiatives in partnership with the Municipal Education Directorate.
The quiz is one of five programmes being rolled out to enhance teaching and learning outcomes as well as civic consciousness among young people.
Drawing from his own academic journey, Mr. Shaib — a lawyer with multiple master’s degrees — highlighted the transformative power of education, urging students to take their studies seriously.
“An educated population is better positioned to engage constructively with lawmakers and contribute meaningfully to national development,” he said.
As part of his ongoing education-focused agenda, Mr. Shaib revealed plans to introduce additional initiatives, including mock examinations, a civic challenge, leadership training, and an academic debate series.
These programmes, he noted, are intended to nurture a culture of discipline, scholarship, and civic responsibility among students in the Weija-Gbawe Constituency.
