Two candidates sitting for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Nkwanta South Municipality were involved in a motorbike accident while travelling to their examination centre.

The students were taken to St. Joseph Catholic Hospital, where they received medical attention before later reporting to the examination centre to write their papers.

Speaking to Class News, the Nkwanta South Municipal Education Director, Jonathan Korsinah, confirmed the incident and said the candidates are in stable condition and continuing with their examinations.

He added that the students would receive further medical care after the exams.

Mr Korsinah also noted that many candidates in the municipality have had limited preparation time after staying home for nearly three months without attending classes.

According to him, the disruption has affected academic performance and contributed to a decline in BECE results compared to previous years, despite efforts to improve educational outcomes in the municipality.

He appealed to residents to maintain peace, stressing that insecurity in the area is negatively affecting education and the future of children.

Meanwhile, security personnel, including police officers and joint military patrol teams, were present at various BECE centres to ensure the safety of candidates throughout the examinations.
