The Cyber Crime Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department has arrested a 36-year-old businessman over alleged involvement in online sexual exploitation and the unlawful circulation of explicit content.

The suspect, identified as Joshua Kojo Anane Boateng, was picked up at East Legon in Accra following a joint intelligence operation involving the Cyber Crime Unit and the Bureau of National Investigations.

Addressing the media, Director-General of the CID, Lydia Yaako Donkor, disclosed that preliminary investigations linked the suspect to a Telegram channel identified as “VIP Sleep Fetish 2025.”

Police say the suspect allegedly drugged female victims using substances believed to include Xanax before assaulting them, recording the incidents and distributing the videos online without the victims’ approval.

According to the CID, investigations further suggest the suspect targeted victims at nightclubs during 2025 before carrying out the alleged acts.

Items retrieved during the arrest included mobile phones, a laptop, storage devices, a hard drive and sachets suspected to contain controlled substances.

The electronic gadgets have since been secured for forensic analysis, while the suspected substances are being examined by the Food and Drugs Authority for confirmation.

Police say the suspect has already appeared before court, while investigations into the case continue.

The Ghana Police Service is meanwhile encouraging the public to report suspected incidents of online sexual abuse and exploitation to the appropriate authorities.
