Former Deputy Minister for Health and former Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, Tina Gifty Naa Ayele Mensah, has reflected on her role in the establishment of the pediatric hospital project located in the Weija-Gbawe Constituency of the Greater Accra Region.

In a statement reflecting on her years of public service under the administration of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and former Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, she expressed pride in contributing to what she described as a major healthcare infrastructure project for her constituency.

According to her, the initiative was originally part of a World Bank-supported health intervention by the Ministry of Health to establish a modern pediatric facility in Ghana.

She noted that initial considerations had included locating the facility at the Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital site on Derby Avenue in Accra due to its historical significance and need for renovation.

However, she said she advocated strongly for the hospital to be sited in Weija-Gbawe, citing the area’s growing population and increasing demand for accessible healthcare services.

She argued that the constituency would better serve as a catchment area for the facility, benefiting both residents of Greater Accra and surrounding communities.

Tina Mensah stated that her proposal was accepted by the government and the Ministry of Health, leading to the approval and eventual construction of the facility in Weija-Gbawe.

She added that she closely monitored the project during her tenure to ensure its progress.

She described the completed facility as a significant healthcare asset that will serve mothers, children, and families for generations.

Although no longer serving as Member of Parliament, she emphasized that the contributions of the Akufo-Addo administration, the Ministry of Health leadership, and her own role in initiating the project should be fairly acknowledged.

She concluded that leadership is about service and long-term impact, expressing confidence that the hospital will continue to benefit communities well beyond political transitions.
