The Coalition of Unemployed Trained Teachers (CUTT) has called on the government to urgently fulfil a promise made by the Minister of Education, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, to recruit 60,000 personnel into the education sector before the end of 2025.

On June 25, 2025, the Minister announced in Parliament that the government would employ 50,000 teachers and 10,000 non-teaching staff within the year.

However, with less than two months remaining, CUTT says there has been no progress, particularly regarding the financial clearance needed from the Minister of Finance to initiate the recruitment process.

The group, which comprises 2023 graduates from public Colleges of Education, says many of its members are facing severe economic hardship, unemployment, and emotional distress due to the prolonged delay.

In a statement, CUTT noted that despite their strong desire to serve and contribute to Ghana’s educational development, they remain jobless and uncertain about their future.

“We are appealing to the government to expedite our recruitment into the teaching service before the start of the second term of the 2025/2026 academic year,” the group stated.

They also urged the media to help amplify their plight by offering coverage, interviews, and feature segments that highlight their challenges and proposed solutions.

According to CUTT, increased public awareness could help influence policymakers to act swiftly.

The coalition’s leadership includes Agyei Godwin Dakede (President), Atakorah Nelson (1st Vice President), Eshun De-Graft Brown (2nd Vice President), Toboase Frank Kwasi (Secretary), and Paul Offeh Karikari (Organiser).

CUTT emphasised that with timely government intervention and support from the media, the issue of teacher unemployment could be addressed, allowing thousands of trained educators to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s classrooms.
