The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates.

A total of 512,862 candidates from 1,022 schools entered the examination, comprising 225,270 males and 287,592 females. The figure represents an 11.07 per cent increase over the 461,736 candidates who entered the examination in 2025. WAEC said 5,049 candidates, representing 0.98 per cent of the total, were absent from the examination.

The Council said the results had been hosted online, with login details to be made available to heads of schools to enable them to access their candidates' results. Candidates who wish to access their results may do so through the WAEC website.

Results Cancelled Over Irregularities

Alongside the release, WAEC has cancelled the subject or entire examination results of 8,295 candidates following investigations into various irregularities recorded during the 2026 WASSCE.

According to WAEC, subject results of 7,434 candidates were cancelled for bringing foreign materials, including prepared notes, textbooks and printed material, into examination halls. The Council also cancelled the entire results of 861 candidates for possessing mobile phones in examination halls.

In addition, WAEC said the subject results of 957 candidates had been withheld, while the entire results of another 270 candidates had also been withheld over various suspected offences.

The decisions followed investigations considered by the 42nd Meeting of the Ghana Examinations Committee on Friday, August 7, 2026.

Results From 169 Schools Still Under Investigation

WAEC said some subject results of candidates from 169 schools had also been withheld over alleged collusion. The Council said those cases remained under investigation, with the affected results to be either released or cancelled depending on the outcome. WAEC expects the investigations to be completed by October 30, 2026.

Candidates whose results have been cancelled or withheld have been directed to access the Council's irregularity and investigations platform to find the reasons for the decision and information on the next steps.

Warning Against Fraudsters

WAEC has cautioned candidates and the public against fraudsters who claim they can upgrade examination results in exchange for money. The Council said its results are secured and can be authenticated through its results verification system, and that candidates could use the WAEC QR code to verify their results.

WAEC urged candidates and other stakeholders to be cautious of individuals who make promises of altering or upgrading examination results, saying such claims should be disregarded.
