State Housing Company gives illegal occupants till October 15 to vacate State lands
The State Housing Company (SHC) has given illegal occupants of its lands and properties until October 15, 2026, to regularize their occupation or vacate ahead of a land audit and recovery exercise.
Deputy Managing Director of the company, Sam Attukwei Quaye, says the exercise is aimed at reclaiming public lands occupied by encroachers, squatters and other persons without legal authorization.
Speaking at a press conference, Mr. Quaye said the company has made several attempts to get the affected persons to comply with its directives but many have ignored the notices.
He said the company has issued reminders through text messages, emails, telephone calls and written notices, urging occupants to regularize their status.
“This company has been very, very patient,” he said, stressing that the company could no longer allow its lands and properties to remain under unauthorized occupation.
He said the company also issued a final warning on February 16, 2026, directing encroachers, squatters and other unauthorized occupants to regularize their status or vacate the properties.
However, he noted, the latest exercise would involve decisive action to protect the company's assets and recover lands earmarked for housing development.
“This time, they might be sleeping on the wrong side because we'll be taking serious action. We are no more going to sleep, and we are not going to renounce on our responsibilities,” he warned.
The State Housing Company, established in 1956, is mandated to provide decent and affordable housing for Ghanaians.
The company says it has more than 30,000 housing units nationwide.
The planned land recovery exercise forms part of efforts to protect state assets and enable the company to fulfil its housing mandate.
