Ablakwa accuses Akufo-Addo of allocating public lands to family members, demands inquiry
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has accused President Akufo-Addo of transferring public lands to his daughter and niece, calling for a full investigation before January 7, 2025.
In a statement posted on Facebook on Monday, 23 December 2024, Mr. Ablakwa revealed official documents from the Lands Commission, which show that the President’s daughter, Edwina Akufo-Addo, and niece, Adeline Akufo-Addo Kufuor, are occupying prime Cantonments land for their businesses.
Edwina runs Nsuomnam Restaurant, while Adeline operates The Lotte, a high-end fashion house.
Mr. Ablakwa stated that the land is public property, acquired under the Hausa Reserve in 1894.
“These lands remain state-owned, yet there are no records to explain how the President’s family members came to possess them,” Ablakwa said.
According to the North Tongu MP, “The conflicting documents from the Lands Commission raise serious concerns about the transparency of these transactions.”
The MP highlighted discrepancies in the Lands Commission’s records regarding the Nsuomnam land, noting that two separate certificates issued in 2024 contained conflicting information.
One states the land is state-owned with no registered developments, while the other references a lease to a private individual.
The North Tongu MP is therefore calling for urgent clarification from President Akufo-Addo and the Lands Commission, insisting that an investigation be launched into these “questionable” land dealings.
He also expressed support for President-elect John Mahama’s commitment to tackling state capture and reviewing such land allocations.
