The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor has addressed concerns regarding recent power outages in the Ashanti Region, attributing them to two main factors: infrastructure damage and increased electricity demand.

According to the Minister, damage to underground cables was one of the primary causes of the outages.

However, he assured the public that the cables have since been repaired, restoring stability to the affected areas.

Additionally, the region has experienced a surge in electricity demand, surpassing the capacity of the existing power infrastructure.

To address this challenge, the government has installed a 145 MVA transformer to boost the region’s power supply and improve reliability.

The Energy Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing Ghana’s energy infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted power supply across the country.

 The Minister assigned these reasons for rampant outages in the Ashanti  Region while answering questions on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday March 12, 2024.
