GNFS contain fire at Kwapong Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Ahafo Region
Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in the Ahafo Region have successfully contained a fire outbreak at the Kwapong Nursing and Midwifery Training College on Friday morning.
According to the GNFS, the distress call was received at 7:12 a.m., prompting an immediate response from the Kukuom Fire Station, which arrived at the scene by 7:30 a.m.
Reinforcement from the Goaso Municipal Fire Station soon joined, and through a coordinated effort, the teams managed to bring the blaze under control by 8:45 a.m. and completely extinguish it at 10:26 a.m.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire began in one of the rooms on the first floor of a one-storey dormitory block, spreading quickly to six adjoining rooms.
The incident destroyed roofing sheets, ceilings, beds, mattresses, books, and other personal belongings of students.
Two fire extinguishers located on the affected floor also exploded during the fire.
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were recorded.
The GNFS has launched a full investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
The Service has also reminded educational institutions to ensure strict adherence to fire safety measures, including regular electrical maintenance and proper storage of flammable materials.
