Interior Minister launches new insurance scheme for fire officers
The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, has joined the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and SIC Life Insurance Limited to sign a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening the welfare and financial security of fire personnel across the country.
The agreement, described as a major milestone for the Service, establishes a comprehensive insurance scheme and a dedicated Welfare Fund to support active and retired officers as well as their families.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Interior Minister expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for his vision in prioritising the welfare of Ghana’s security services.
He also commended Chief Fire Officer, Madam Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong— the first woman to lead the GNFS— for her exceptional leadership and commitment to improving conditions for officers.
“This initiative ensures that the brave men and women who put their lives on the line every day receive the protection, dignity, and encouragement they deserve,” he said.
SIC Life, led by its Managing Director, Mr. Solomon Twum Barimah, assured the gathering that the insurance package— which includes coverage for critical illnesses and other key benefits— will be regularly enhanced to reflect the unique risks and contributions of Fire Officers.
The MoU marks a significant step in the government’s ongoing efforts to improve the welfare of Ghana’s security and emergency services.
It is expected to provide a stronger safety net for personnel and boost morale within the Fire Service as they continue to safeguard lives and property nationwide.
