Lands Ministry confirms death of NAiMOS taskforce member in Obuasi accident
The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has announced the death of a member of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAiMOS) following a fatal accident near the Obuasi Airport on Wednesday, 19th November 2025.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry, a five-member NAiMOS team was involved in the crash while on a major anti-galamsey operation aimed at combating illegal mining activities in the Obuasi enclave.
One member of the task force reportedly died on the spot, while the remaining four sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a medical facility.
The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources extended his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and expressed heartfelt wishes for the swift recovery of the injured personnel.
The Ministry said it has launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident to establish the cause and ensure accountability.
It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the safety and welfare of all frontline officers engaged in the fight against illegal mining, adding that the affected personnel would receive all necessary support.
