Parliament gets new Clerk
Mr Ebenezer Ahumah Djietor has been appointed as the new Clerk of Parliament, following an extraordinary meeting of the Parliamentary Service Board in November 2024.
The appointment came after interviews with three deputy clerks, with Mr. Djietor emerging as the successful candidate. Currently serving as the Deputy Clerk of Corporate and Financial Management Services Division, Mr. Djietor will succeed the outgoing Clerk, Cyril Kwabena Oteng Nsiah, who is set to retire upon turning 60 on February 2, 2025.
An experienced lawyer and one of Parliament's longest-serving procedural clerks, Mr. Djietor has a wealth of experience in parliamentary administration.
He has previously served as the clerk to several key committees, including the Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs Committee, the Business Committee, the Judiciary Committee, and the Foreign Affairs Committee.
Speaker of the Eighth Parliament and Chairman of the Parliamentary Service Board, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has already issued an appointment letter to Mr. Djietor, enabling him to assume office on January 1, 2025.
In preparation for the transition, Speaker Bagbin has directed Mr. Nsiah to proceed on annual leave effective December 31, 2024.
As the incoming Clerk, Mr. Djietor will oversee the swearing-in of newly elected Members of Parliament and the Speaker on January 7, 2025.
The formal announcement of his appointment is expected to be made in Parliament before the House rises for the Christmas holidays.
Mr. Djietor’s extensive experience and leadership are expected to ensure a seamless transition and contribute to the effective functioning of the next Parliament.
