Team ORAL receives documents on ₵500 million National Service 'ghost' names scandal
Team Operation Recover All Loot(ORAL) has announced the receipt of a comprehensive dossier detailing a massive 'ghost' names scandal within Ghana's National Service Scheme, estimated to have cost the country over GHS500 million.
The report, compiled by investigative journalism platform The Fourth Estate and the Media Foundation for West Africa, was officially handed over to Team ORAL today.
The team expressed gratitude to the organizations for their dedication to exposing corruption and their patriotism in seeking accountability.
"We are deeply appreciative of the efforts of The Fourth Estate and the Media Foundation for West Africa in uncovering this grave issue.
According to the Chairman of ORAL, Mr Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa the work of the organization exemplifies the power of investigative journalism in holding institutions accountable,"
The dossier reportedly outlines systematic irregularities, including the use of non-existent names on the payroll of the National Service Scheme, leading to a loss of hundreds of millions of cedis in taxpayer funds.
Team ORAL pledged to take swift action to address the scandal, recover the lost funds, and implement measures to prevent future occurrences.
“This revelation is a critical step in resetting Ghana and ensuring that every stolen pesewa is recovered.
We owe it to the citizens of this country to restore confidence in public institutions and safeguard national resources,” the team affirmed.
The team also called on other stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies, to collaborate in bringing the perpetrators of the scandal to justice and implementing reforms to strengthen the National Service Scheme's accountability systems.
