Doctor pharmacists threaten legal action over delays in the payment of their standard allowance
A group of Doctor of Pharmacy graduates from the class of 2022, who recently completed their housemanship training at various health institutions across the country, have issued a 23-day ultimatum to the Ministry of Health and relevant stakeholders, demanding the payment of their long-overdue allowances.
The graduates, who have faced persistent delays in receiving their standard allowances throughout their housemanship, are calling for immediate action to resolve the issue or they will pursue legal action.
Led by the Doctor of Pharmacy House Officers (DPHOs) of the 2022 batch, the group has submitted a list of demands to the Ministry of Health.
Central to their demands is the immediate payment of all outstanding allowances, which have been delayed for over two years.
Additionally, the DPHOs are urging the Ministry to establish a transparent and official system to ensure timely disbursement of allowances for future house officers, to prevent similar issues from arising.
The graduates have been outspoken about the challenges they've faced, emphasizing the emotional and psychological toll of the prolonged uncertainty.
They have also highlighted the financial strain on their families and loved ones, who have had to bear the burden of supporting them during their education and training.
In their ultimatum, the DPHOs have warned the Ministry of Health that they will take further action, including legal measures if their demands are not met.
They have also called on the Vice President of Ghana to intervene, appealing to his commitment to resolving the issue and ensuring that justice is served
