Support us in carrying out our mandate – EC to citizens
The Electoral Commission (EC) has urged Ghanaians to support its efforts in ensuring credible and transparent elections, as disputes over the re-collation and declaration of parliamentary results in several constituencies persist.
Addressing a press conference in Accra on Friday, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa highlighted the crucial role of public cooperation in preserving the integrity of the electoral process.
“We would like to finally call on the citizens of Ghana to support us in our bid to carry out our mandate. May God bless all of you, and may God bless our homeland Ghana and make her great and strong,” she stated.
The affected constituencies include Nsawam Adoagyiri, Dome Kwabenya, Ablekuma North, and Okaikwei Central.
The EC Chairperson revealed that results for Dome Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, and Ablekuma North remain invalid, citing incidents where declarations were made under duress due to threats against electoral staff and the destruction of ballot papers.
“Credible elections are a shared responsibility,” she emphasised, calling on citizens to maintain peace and order during the electoral process.
The EC has yet to announce its next course of action in addressing the disputes but reiterated its commitment to conducting elections that accurately reflect the will of the people.
