Health Ministry announces regional hospitals for 6 new regions
The government has announced plans to build regional hospitals in the six newly created regions as part of efforts to expand access to healthcare services nationwide.
Addressing the launch of the Free Primary Healthcare Programme in Goaso, Minister of Health Kwabena Mintah Akandoh said the project reflects the government's commitment to improving access to affordable healthcare.
He said the additional hospitals would enhance the capacity of the health system and ensure that residents of the beneficiary regions have better access to specialised and essential medical services.
Mr Akandoh also announced that additional health professionals would be posted to underserved regions and districts to help address staffing shortages and improve service delivery.
Ahafo Regional Minister Charity Gardiner said ongoing construction of Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds by Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies is supporting efforts to make healthcare more accessible. She reaffirmed the regional administration's commitment to strengthening the health sector.
Executive Director of the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), Dr Peter Yeboah, described the Free Primary Healthcare Programme as a major milestone in Ghana's healthcare system.
He said the initiative is the most significant health policy introduced since the National Health Insurance Scheme and pledged CHAG's continued support to ensure its successful implementation.
