Lordina Mahama Foundation inaugurates maternal and baby ward at Nkoranza Polyclinic
In a bid to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates in the Nkoranza community and its surrounding areas in the Bono East Region, the Lordina Mahama Foundation has inaugurated a new maternal and baby ward at the Nkoranza Polyclinic.
Speaking at the ceremony, which was attended by chiefs and local residents, former First Lady Lordina Mahama emphasized the foundation's commitment to addressing the healthcare needs of women and promoting healthy pregnancies and safe deliveries.
“The facility is dedicated to addressing the concerns of women and promoting safe delivery,” said Mrs. Mahama.
The new ward aims to provide essential healthcare services to pregnant women and newborns, contributing to a reduction in the estimated 250,000 maternal deaths and 1.2 million infant deaths recorded annually due to inadequate healthcare facilities and services.
Madam Priscilla Agyekum, Secretary of the Lordina Mahama Foundation, highlighted that the initiative aligns with Lordina Mahama’s vision of ensuring equal healthcare opportunities for all.
Dr. Cornelius Atsu Gligui, the Medical Superintendent of the Nkoranza Polyclinic, expressed his gratitude to the foundation for its support.
He also took the opportunity to appeal to individuals and stakeholders to provide further assistance in the form of infrastructure and other essential amenities to enhance the facility's operations.
