The Private Health Facilities Association of Ghana (PHFAoG) has suspended its decision to halt healthcare services to National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cardholders, following firm assurances from the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to settle outstanding claims by the close of business on Monday, April 7, 2025.

The PHFAoG had earlier announced a temporary suspension of services to NHIS cardholders, citing severe financial constraints resulting from prolonged delays in reimbursement.

The move, which took immediate effect on Friday, April 4, was part of efforts to draw attention to the cashflow crisis affecting private healthcare providers across the country.

However, following an exhaustive meeting between PHFAoG leadership and NHIA management, the Association announced a suspension of the action, pending fulfillment of the Authority’s latest payment commitment.

“We have been given a renewed assurance of payment by close of business on Monday, 7th April, 2025.

On the back of this development, coupled with a show of good faith by the Authority, we have decided to suspend the ongoing action,” said Dr. Kwame Buabeng-Frimpong, President of PHFAoG.

The Association, however, cautioned that it reserves the right to take further action if the NHIA fails to honour its promise.

During the meeting, Dr. Asare Bampoe, Chief Executive Officer of the NHIA, reaffirmed his commitment to instituting a seamless and sustainable reimbursement system, which he described as central to his vision of building a responsive and robust health sector.

In light of the new development, PHFAoG has directed all private healthcare facilities nationwide to resume full services to NHIS cardholders and continue delivering quality care in line with national health goals.
