#2024Polls: K.T. Hammond, other prominent NPP MPs lose seats in key constituencies
The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has suffered significant losses in the 2024 general elections, with some of its prominent Members of Parliament (MPs) losing their seats to opposition candidates.
The Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, lost the Ablekuma West Constituency seat in the Greater Accra Region to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Kwaku Addo.
In the Asokwa Constituency, a traditional NPP stronghold in the Ashanti Region, long-serving MP K.T. Hammond was defeated by the NDC’s parliamentary candidate, marking a significant upset in the party’s heartland.
Also, John Peter Amewu lost in the Hohoe Constituency to the NDC's Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo.
Similarly, Hawa Koomson, the incumbent MP for Awutu Senya East, was unseated by NDC parliamentary candidate Naa Koryoo Okunor, further highlighting the NDC's gains in critical constituencies.
