#2024Polls: Mahama leads Bawumia by 669,724 votes in Ashanti Region
The Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has revealed that President-elect John Dramani Mahama secured a significant lead of 669,724 votes over Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the Ashanti Region during the 2024 presidential elections.
Speaking at a post-election briefing, Dr. Omane Boamah highlighted the NDC’s growing influence in the traditionally New Patriotic Party (NPP)-dominated region.
He further alleged that 500,000 fake ballot papers were uncovered at Kwadaso, suggesting potential attempts at ballot stuffing by the NPP.
“Without these fake ballots, the gap in the Ashanti Region would have exceeded one million votes,” Dr. Omane Boamah stated.
He accused the NPP of exaggerating its popularity in the region, attributing its electoral performance to questionable practices.
The NDC strategist emphasized the party’s growing traction in the Ashanti Region, urging future leadership to build on this momentum.
“With our #EAGLEEYES initiative, we’ve exposed irregularities.
The next generation of leaders must perfect our systems and turn the Ashanti Region into an emerging electoral battleground. The NDC has more to offer in Ashanti than the NPP,” he added.
Dr. Omane Boamah’s remarks underscore the NDC’s focus on broadening its support base in regions previously considered strongholds of the NPP.
As the party reflects on its historic electoral gains, it looks set to strategize further for future contests in the region.
