Abbossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association distances itself from GUTA
The Abbossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association has announced its decision to distance itself from the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), citing persistent exclusion from key decision-making processes.
The decision was made public by the Association’s Head of Communication, Mr. Takyi Addo, who expressed strong dissatisfaction with GUTA’s leadership.
According to him, the parent body has repeatedly taken major decisions without consulting the Abbossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association, despite its status as one of the largest and most influential trader groups in the country.
Mr. Addo pointed specifically to the recent inauguration of a new GUTA President, describing it as one of several important decisions undertaken without the involvement of the spare parts dealers.
He noted that this pattern of exclusion undermines unity and mutual respect within the traders’ movement.
He further stated that the Abbossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association will withhold its support from all GUTA activities until its concerns are adequately addressed and the Association is accorded the recognition it deserves.
The move is widely seen as a major setback for GUTA, with potential implications for its representativeness and effectiveness as a national traders’ body.
Mr. Addo warned that the decision could have serious consequences for GUTA’s operations if leadership fails to reconsider its approach.
The Abbossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association has, however, left the door open for future collaboration, stressing that any renewed partnership must be based on mutual respect, inclusion, and meaningful consultation in decision-making.
