Accra Mayor shortlisted for 2026 MCE the Year Awards
Five Metropolitan Chief Executives (MCEs) have been shortlisted for the highly competitive “Best Metropolitan Chief Executive of the Year” category at the 2026 Ghana Minister of the Year Awards.
The category recognises metropolitan leaders who have demonstrated significant impact in areas such as sanitation, infrastructure, education, health, decongestion and revenue mobilisation since assuming office under the administration of President John Dramani Mahama.
The shortlisted nominees are:
Michael Kpakpo Allotey – Greater Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive George Justice Arthur – Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive Richard Ofori-Agyemang Boadi – Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive Ebi Bright – Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive Adam Abubakari Takoro – Tamale Metropolitan Chief ExecutiveAccording to organisers, the nominees were selected based on their performance and implementation of key development initiatives between 2025 and 2026.
In Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey has been recognised for initiatives including a 24-hour sanitation drive, infrastructure upgrades, decongestion exercises and support for Persons With Disabilities.
Cape Coast Mayor George Justice Arthur earned a nomination following projects in education, healthcare, water provision and the launch of a long-term development strategy for the metropolis.
Kumasi Mayor Richard Ofori-Agyemang Boadi, popularly known as “King Zuba,” was shortlisted for his decongestion efforts, public health initiatives, solar streetlight installations and education-focused engagements.
Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive Ebi Bright, the first female Mayor of Tema, was recognised for her role in promoting the government’s 24-hour economy agenda, as well as infrastructure and community development projects.
Meanwhile, Tamale Mayor Adam Abubakari Takoro secured a nomination for interventions in sanitation, education, agriculture, youth empowerment and internally generated revenue mobilisation.
Organisers of the awards noted that the Minister of the Year Performance Tracking Index assesses nominees based on mandate delivery, financial stewardship, governance, and stakeholder impact.
The winners are expected to be announced on June 6, 2026, at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel during an awards ceremony scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
Guests attending the event are expected to dress in black tie or traditional attire.
