Afenyo-Markin urges TESCON to reject tribalism, rally for NPP victory
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called on members of the Tertiary Students Confederacy to reject tribal politics and remain united in their efforts to advance the ideals of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Addressing selected TESCON executives on Wednesday, the Effutu Member of Parliament cautioned against what he described as divisive propaganda from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), urging students to focus instead on unity, loyalty, and hard work.
He stressed that the NPP values sacrifice and inclusiveness, adding that tribal background should not determine an individual’s role in the party.
He cited the party’s flagbearer, Mahamudu Bawumia, as an example of how dedication and competence transcend ethnic considerations.
Afenyo-Markin further argued that the NPP is well-positioned to reclaim power, insisting that the party would secure a parliamentary majority if elections were held today.
He attributed this confidence to what he described as the NDC’s failure to fulfil key promises, pointing to declining cocoa prices and rising electricity tariffs as major concerns for Ghanaians.
However, he emphasised that victory in the 2028 general elections will depend on the collective effort and commitment of party members, particularly the youth.
