Akufo-Addo congratulates Mahama on election victory
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has congratulated the incoming six president of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
"Further to this evening's official declaration by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs. Jean Mensa, of the results of the 2024 Presidential Election, the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has called President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, to congratulate him on his decisive victory in the just-ended presidential election," a statement dated Monday, December 9, 2024, signed by Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications (Office of the President), said.
"President Akufo-Addo expressed his commitment to ensuring a seamless transfer of power on 7th January 2025, and looks forward to working with the President-elect and his team to realise this goal."
The statement continued: "The President also congratulates the Electoral Commission and the Ghanaian people for a successful election that reflects the enduring strength of Ghana's democracy. He acknowledges the commitment and participation of all stakeholders, which have ensured that the democratic process in Ghana remains credible and peaceful.
"President Akufo-Addo calls on all Ghanaians to unite and work together to consolidate democracy and the rule of law in our country."
"In the spirit of collaboration, the President has invited the President-elect for a meeting on Wednesday, 11th December 2024, at Jubilee House to initiate the transition process. He remains committed to the principles of good governance and a peaceful transition that will further strengthen Ghana's reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa," the statement revealed.
"May God continue to bless our homeland Ghana and make her great and strong."
