Baba Jamal Ahmed denies vote-buying allegations after recall as Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria
Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed ESQ has firmly denied allegations of vote buying following his recall as Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, describing the claims as unfounded and pledging his full cooperation with any investigation.
In a press release issued on Sunday, February 8, 2026, Ahmed said his attention had been drawn to a communiqué signed by the Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, announcing his recall.
The recall was reportedly linked to accusations of vote buying during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries in the Ayawaso East Constituency on Saturday, February 7.
The statement also referenced an earlier communication by the NDC’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, which condemned the alleged incident and called for a thorough investigation.
Responding to the claims, Ahmed categorically rejected any wrongdoing.
“I have not engaged in any vote buying or election malpractices,” he stated, adding that he is ready to cooperate fully with the party’s investigative processes.
“I pledge to avail myself to assist the party in its investigation into the subject matter anytime.”
Despite the recall, Ahmed expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the opportunity to serve the country in a diplomatic capacity.
“I want to use this opportunity to thank H.E. the President for the honour done me and the opportunity to serve my country as Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria,” he said.
He also thanked party members in the Ayawaso East Constituency for their continued trust and support, noting their confidence in his leadership ahead of the constituency’s upcoming by-election scheduled for March 3, 2026.
The NDC is yet to conclude its investigations into the allegations.
