Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, a former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), has been taken into custody by the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) to assist with investigations into his claims that government-sponsored overseas scholarships were sold to beneficiaries.

The development was confirmed by the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Digital Centres Limited, Dzifa Gunu, in a post on Facebook.

According to her, Mr. Nkansah was picked up by the NIB after he allegedly failed to honour earlier invitations to provide evidence to support his allegations.

“Kofi Ofosu Nkansah has been picked up by the NIB to substantiate his allegations of the sale of foreign scholarships.

He is currently in the grips of the NIB after refusing their invitation,” he wrote.

The investigation follows a directive from President John Dramani Mahama, who ordered the NIB to conduct a full inquiry into the matter.

The President’s instruction was conveyed by the Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Fosu, after Mr. Nkansah made the claims during a radio discussion on Sompa 106.5 FM.

During the broadcast, Mr. Nkansah alleged that some individuals paid money to secure government-sponsored scholarships for studies abroad, raising concerns about transparency, fairness, and integrity in the scholarship award process.

In a formal communication dated February 3, 2026, the allegations were described as “serious and of grave public concern.” The NIB was tasked to establish the facts surrounding the claims, identify any persons involved, and determine their veracity.

The Bureau is expected to submit its findings directly to the President for further consideration and any necessary action.

No charges have been announced, and investigations are ongoing.
