Zanator Rawlings honours Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings’ legacy on International Women’s Day
The Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, Zanator Agyeman-Rawlings, has paid tribute to her late mother, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, highlighting her contributions to women’s empowerment and national development as the world marked International Women’s Day.
In a message to commemorate the occasion, Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings described her late mother as a remarkable Ghanaian woman whose work continues to leave a lasting impact on the country.
She noted that Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings played a key role in advancing social development through activism, advocacy and fundraising initiatives.
According to her, one of her mother’s significant contributions was supporting the establishment of the Radiotherapy Unit at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, which has provided hope and lifesaving treatment for many Ghanaians battling cancer.
Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings also highlighted her mother’s influence in shaping legislation, particularly the Interstate Succession Law, which she said helped protect the rights of widows and children and promote justice and dignity within families.
Beyond legislation and institutional reforms, she said Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings worked extensively in rural communities, travelling to remote parts of the country to support women and encourage them to harness their potential.
Through the establishment of processing factories and support for women-led enterprises, she helped many women build sustainable livelihoods and strengthen their communities.
Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings also noted that her mother valued the role of traditional leadership, particularly queenmothers, whom she empowered and recognised as key advocates for women and community welfare.
She said the life and work of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings demonstrate the important role women play in nurturing families, defending justice and building stronger societies.
Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings, therefore, urged both women and men to continue supporting efforts to empower women.
“When women rise, families flourish, communities grow stronger, and nations prosper,” she stated while wishing women in Ghana and around the world a happy International Women’s Day.
