GA/R: 3 dead, 20 rescued after building collapse at Accra New Town
Three people have been confirmed dead after a three-storey building collapsed at Accra New Town, as rescue efforts continue to locate others believed to be trapped under the debris.
The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, confirmed the fatalities speaking to the media at the scene, adding that 20 individuals have so far been pulled out alive.
The collapse occurred earlier in the day on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at an uncompleted three-storey structure situated within the compound of the Accra New Town Experimental Basic School. The site is also used by Christian worshippers on Sundays.
The cause of the incident is not immediately known.

Emergency response teams from the Ghana Police Service (GPS), the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) are continuing operations at the scene.
Floodlights and other equipment have been deployed to support rescue efforts into the night.
Authorities indicate that a number of people may still be trapped, with reports that some victims are calling for help from beneath the rubble.
Before the arrival of emergency personnel, local residents and bystanders began initial rescue efforts, using their hands and basic tools to extract victims.
Rescue teams say the operation will continue overnight as they work to reach those still buried under the collapsed structure.
