Pan-African campaigner welcomes Ghana’s free visa policy for Africans
The Lead Campaigner of the Trans Africa Tourism and Unity Campaign, Ras Mubarak, has welcomed the Government of Ghana’s decision to introduce a free e-visa regime for all African travellers, describing it as a major step toward continental integration.
President John Dramani Mahama recently announced that, effective May 25, 2026, Ghana will grant free electronic visas to all Africans, allowing travellers to apply online at no cost.
Reacting to the development, Ras Mubarak said the policy represents significant progress in advancing the vision of African unity and free movement across the continent.
The announcement was made during bilateral talks between President Mahama and Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa as part of the latter’s state visit to Ghana.
President Mahama assured that while the policy promotes openness, adequate security measures have been put in place to properly screen visitors and safeguard national security.
He emphasised that Ghana, as a historic centre of Pan-Africanism, has a responsibility to remain accessible to people across the continent.
Ras Mubarak also pointed to similar developments elsewhere in Africa, noting that countries like Uganda have already taken steps toward easing travel restrictions for African nationals.
He described Ghana’s move as a landmark decision that reinforces its leadership role in promoting African integration and strengthening intra-African travel and cooperation.
