Ga Traditional Council announces one-month ban on drumming ahead of Homowo Festival
The Ga Traditional Council, in collaboration with the Ga Paramount Stool and the Office of the Ga Mantse, has announced a one-month ban on drumming and noise-making across the Ga State.
The directive, which will take effect from May 4 to June 4, 2026, forms part of customary rites leading to the annual Homowo Festival.
According to the Council, the period is regarded as sacred and is set aside to promote peace, solemnity, and spiritual reflection among the Ga people as they prepare for the festival.
Residents, institutions, and religious bodies operating within the affected areas have been urged to comply fully with the directive, which is recognised under Ghana’s customary law and cultural traditions.
Authorities emphasised the importance of observing the ban as a means of preserving harmony and upholding long-standing traditions in the lead-up to Homowo celebrations.
The Homowo Festival is one of the most significant cultural events of the Ga people, marked by rituals, remembrance, and communal festivities.
