The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), in collaboration with the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service (GPS), will begin enforcement against vehicle owners using 2025 DV plates and expired DP stickers starting today, Tuesday, March 24, 2026.

In a public notice, the authority explained that it had previously allowed an extension for the use of 2025 plates and stickers due to delays in the rollout of the new 2026 vehicle licence plates.

Following the issuance of 2026 DV plates on February 4, 2026, to motor traders, fleet owners, and licensed trade plate dealers, continued use of 2025 DV plates and expired DP stickers is now considered illegal.

The DVLA reminded the public that the use of DV plates is governed by Regulation 23 of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180), which specifies the categories of vehicles permitted to use such plates.

Vehicle owners whose cars do not meet the criteria are required to complete the appropriate registration processes.

The authority also noted that all its operational offices have been registering vehicles for the 2026 year since January 2, 2026, and urged motorists to comply with the regulations to avoid sanctions during the upcoming enforcement exercise.
