Bawumia expresses sympathy after building collapse in Accra Newtown
Former Vice President and 2028 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed condolences following a tragic building collapse in Accra Newtown.
The incident, which occurred on the afternoon of March 30, reportedly involved a structure used as a place of Christian worship, leaving several people trapped beneath the rubble and others injured.
In a message shared on his social media platforms, Dr. Bawumia conveyed his sorrow over the incident, extending sympathies to affected families and offering prayers for the victims.
“I have received with sadness news of the tragic building collapse in Accra Newtown this afternoon.
May the lives lost rest in peace, and my deepest sympathy goes to the families.
I pray that all trapped are brought out safely, and the injured recover swiftly,” he stated.
He also commended emergency responders for their swift intervention and ongoing efforts to rescue victims.
Rescue teams and emergency personnel are currently at the scene working to evacuate those trapped under the debris.
Authorities have urged the public to stay away from the area to allow rescue operations to proceed without obstruction.
The cause of the collapse is yet to be determined, with investigations expected to commence in the coming days.
