Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has announced that more than 2,000 kilometres of roads across all 16 regions are currently undergoing major upgrades under the government’s Big Push initiative.

Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, he stated that under the leadership of John Dramani Mahama, road projects have not been halted or cancelled without justification.

The Minister further disclosed that Parliament has so far approved nearly GHS 50 billion to support the multi-year road and bridge programme, reflecting strong legislative backing for the initiative.

He also called on citizens to actively monitor projects within their communities as part of efforts to promote transparency and accountability, while welcoming constructive feedback from the public.

“As I speak, over 2000km of roads in all 16 regions of our country are undergoing extensive transformation. Mr. Speaker, in times past, we have all been concerned by the state of our roads, mindful of the amount of monies invested,” he stated.

“The huge unpaid debt of over GHS 40billion has received attention with over GHS 11 billion paid to retire arrears inherited from the previous administration. This is by far the single largest arrears clearance in a relatively short period in our history, It will therefore be mischievous for any right-thinking member of society to conclude that the Ministry of Roads and Highways only procure works through sole sourcing,” he noted.
