Ibrahim Mahama engages Police leadership amid Assault allegation investigation
Ghanaian visual artist Ibrahim Mahama is currently in discussions with the Police Management Board as authorities deepen investigations into claims that he was assaulted by police personnel.
The alleged incident, said to have taken place on March 21, reportedly involved individuals believed to be linked to the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Operations unit, popularly known as the “Black Maria.”
However, the unit’s commander, Abdul Bawa Jalil, has firmly rejected the allegations, stating that members of his team were not involved in any such incident.
The case has since been referred to the Police Professional Standards Bureau, the internal oversight body mandated to probe allegations of misconduct within the Ghana Police Service.
In a bid to establish the facts, the Inspector-General of Police has invited both Ibrahim Mahama and the Northern Regional Police Commander to Accra to support ongoing investigations.
The engagement with the Police Management Board is expected to shed more light on the matter as officials work to verify the claims and determine whether any wrongdoing occurred.
