Ghana’s Foreign Minister commends UN Member States for historic resolution
The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto- Ablakwa, has expressed appreciation to all 123 United Nations member states for supporting the adoption of a landmark resolution at the global body declaring the trafficking of Enslaved Africans and racialising chattel enslavement of Africans as the gravest crime against humanity.
In a statement, the Minister thanked the countries for making Resolution A/RES/80/250 possible, describing it as a significant milestone in multilateral cooperation.
Mr. Ablakwa noted that the broad backing from member states demonstrates a shared commitment to advancing key international priorities through collaboration within the United Nations.
He emphasised that the adoption of the resolution by President John Mahama reflects growing consensus among nations on issues of global importance about the treatment of African in the early eighteenth century.
The Foreign Minister further indicated that Ghana remains committed to working with international partners to promote diplomacy, cooperation, and sustainable development through multilateral platforms.
The resolution is expected to contribute to ongoing global efforts in areas aligned with the United Nations’ agenda, with Ghana playing an active role in its implementation.
