'Be worried': Sammy Awuku warns NDC appointees to 'cross every i and dot every t' before change of gov't
Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Organiser Sammy Awuku has cautioned officials and appointees serving under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to carry out their duties with utmost diligence, warning that they could also be held accountable by a future administration in a potentially unpleasant fashion.
Speaking on UTV, Mr Awuku said the current political climate should serve as a reminder to government officials that accountability is not permanent to one administration.
"I am worried for appointees under President Mahama because they have to cross every i and dot every t," he said.
He added: "Just as there is accountability today, there'll be accountability tomorrow."
Mr Awuku revealed he was pleased that NDC party officials and government appointees were "worried" about the current political environment, suggesting they recognised that a future change in government could subject their actions to similar scrutiny. He said he knew this due to private conversations.
His comments came as he criticised the arrest and detention of NPP communicator Dennis 'Miracles' Aboagye, describing the circumstances surrounding the case as politically troubling.
Mr Awuku maintained that he was not pronouncing Mr Aboagye guilty or innocent in the GHS55 million Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD) scandal but questioned the manner in which the case had been handled, including his arrest despite his lawyers being in regular contact with the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
