By electing Bawumia, delegates rejected tribal and religious bigotry- Kofi Tonto
Kofi Tonto, the political aide and spokesperson to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, made a compelling statement about the just-concluded NPP Presidential primary.
Speaking with Kwaku Owusu Adjei on Original TV, Mr Tonto said, the overwhelming victory of Dr. Bawumia, who secured a remarkable 56% of the votes, is a testament to the delegates’ rejection of tribal and religious divisions in favour of choosing a candidate based on competence and visionary leadership.
“The delegates made it clear in the 2026 NPP Presidential primary that they value ideas and practical solutions over tribal or religious bigotry.
Dr. Bawumia’s victory is a victory for unity, progress, and a Ghana that is focused on its future, not its divisions,” Tonto emphasised.
Bawumia’s decisive win signals not only his popularity within the party but also a broader message of inclusivity and competence as the key factors in shaping the future of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Tonto believes that Bawumia’s ability to bring people together, regardless of background, is the reason why the delegates have entrusted him with the NPP's presidential ticket.
“This landslide victory proves that Ghanaians, especially the NPP delegates, are looking for leadership that transcends divisions and focuses on delivering tangible solutions for the country’s development.
Bawumia embodies this vision,” he added.
