The National Chairman aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, says his political journey has been defined by difficult electoral contests, party loyalty, and years of organisational service as he campaigns ahead of the party’s 2028 general election strategy.

Speaking during stakeholder engagements in Accra as part of his nationwide consultations, he said his rise from constituency-level politics to three terms as Ashanti Regional Chairman reflects sustained grassroots support and experience in party administration.

He said his leadership has been shaped by “hard-fought” elections rather than easy victories, adding that such experiences have strengthened him.

He credited the party’s grassroots structures for his political growth and said loyalty to the NPP must be demonstrated through action during elections and campaigns.

He cited his support for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s presidential bid as an example of prioritising party decisions over personal preference.

Chairman Wontumi also said the party’s main challenge is not a lack of intellectual capacity but the need for practical, results-oriented leadership focused on electoral success and organisational strength.

He outlined his leadership priorities as unifying the party, rebuilding grassroots structures, supporting efforts to secure victory in 2028 under Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as flagbearer, and expanding opportunities for young members within the party.

Addressing his ongoing legal proceedings, he said he respects due process and insisted the matters do not affect his ability to serve, adding that leadership requires resilience and integrity.

He described his campaign as focused on service, discipline, and grassroots mobilisation, and said he intends to work closely with party executives at all levels to strengthen internal cohesion ahead of the 2028 elections.
