'Dennis was never hiding' — Akosua Manu blasts EOCO over Miracle's arrest
Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Adentan, Akosua Manu, has questioned the arrest of Dennis 'Miracles' Aboagye, saying she does not understand why he was detained after responding to issues raised following an audit at the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD).
Speaking to the media, she said Mr Aboagye had answered all the questions raised by his successor, Dr Gameli Hoedoafia, "within one week".
"If you feel there's a problem, you can go to the court and charge him. He can show up and express himself," she added.
Although the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) said there was a stop order against Mr Aboagye, Ms Manu argued there had been no indication preventing him from travelling.
Mr Aboagye was arrested at the Accra International Airport on Saturday evening upon his return to Ghana from a trip abroad.
Ms Manu said his decision to return to the country demonstrated that he had no intention of evading law enforcement and reflected his willingness to cooperate.
"He returned to Ghana, and even before he travelled he was seen in public going to radio and TV stations. This was in the open. Dennis is not someone who is difficult to find," she stressed.
She also criticised the bail conditions imposed on him, which require a GHS50 million bail with three sureties, two of whom must justify the bail with properties valued at the same amount.
"Is this how to decide bail conditions?" she quizzed.
Popularly known as Kozie, the former Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority (NYA) warned the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) that "no matter how long it takes, the power will switch to a new team".
The NPP is seeking to regroup and regain power in the 2028 general election after governing Ghana from 2016 to 2024.
